9 Ways to Keep Powdery Mildew Off Your Outdoor Grow.
Keep your buds clean and your grow thriving with these OG-approved tips.
Outdoor grows in Ontario are a vibe—until powdery mildew rolls up like an uninvited houseguest. Sticky, dusty, and out for your trichomes. But don’t stress. With a few smart moves, you can keep your ladies clean, green, and mildew-free all season.
Start clean, stay clean.
Before you flip to flower or move your plants outdoors, hit them with one last neem or sulfur spray. Just don’t mix ‘em and always wait the proper interval.
Not all strains are built for battle. Some are divas in the dew.
OG Tip: Go for Indica-leaning or hybrid strains bred for outdoor resilience. If you’re in a humid zone like the GTA or cottage country, genetics matter more than ever.
Mildew loves stagnant air. So:
Space your plants out—give those branches room to breathe.
Prune lower branches and fan leaves for better airflow and light penetration.
Don’t let them turn into bushy mildew hotels.
No overhead watering. Period. Wet leaves = mildew party.
Water the soil, not the foliage, and keep those leaves dry like your favorite crisp harvest nug.
Hit ’em early in the day. Watering late = wet leaves at night = mold time.
Give leaves time to dry before sundown so mildew doesn’t creep in while you sleep.
Humidity above 60% during flower = mildew’s comfort zone.
If you’re using a greenhouse, hoop house, or cover, make sure it’s got:
Cross-ventilation
Fans or passive airflow
No wet walls or condensation vibes
Once they’re flowering, no more foliar sprays! But during veg, hit them with these:
🟢 Neem oil – 1–2x a week (don’t mix with sulfur!)
🟡 Potassium bicarbonate spray – changes surface pH
🥛 Milk + water spray – old-school but effective (10:90 ratio)
💣 Wettable sulfur – mildew killer, but don’t mix with oils or apply in heat
OG Warning: Sulfur + oils = plant damage. Space ’em out by at least 2 weeks.
Sick plants attract problems. Keep yours thriving with:
Balanced feeding
Proper soil pH (6.0–6.5)
No overwatering or rootbound pots
Stress-free vibes only
Healthy plants fight mildew better—simple as that.
Dead leaves, weeds, and plant debris? That’s mildew’s Airbnb.
Clear the base of your plants
Pull up weeds
Keep the zone tidy and trash-free
Your plants will breathe easier (and look better on IG).
Mildew thrives in cool, damp weather—especially after rain.
Check daily during rainy spells
Shake off excess water
Inspect the undersides of leaves (it loves to hide)
Be paranoid. Just a little.
Before flipping to flower or moving plants outdoors, give ‘em a final neem or sulfur spray. Just make sure you:
Rinse if needed
Follow wait periods
Don’t combine sprays!
